Clouds seem puffier, although I suspect that doesn't make much sense in the external world beyond my imagination, ha; I think we must be near to the last of her quarters. A recording of the sequence at Mass today, the Stabat Mater dolorosa.
My periodic advertisement of the beautiful Ultimate Stabat Mater Website, begun by Hans van der Velden, requiescat in pace, in 1992, and curated from the beginning by his spouse Hannie van Osnabrugge. I can't last through ten minutes of a podcast in English, so over an a hour in whichever Netherlandish this is is obviously beyond me, but it is a good thing to put a face to the name I've seen for these ten or so years. There is a book, evidently, which I'll try to look for later on.
Introitus. Joann. 19, 25. Stabant juxta Crucem Jesu Mater ejus, et soror Matris ejus, María Cléophæ, et Salóme et María Magdaléne. Ibid., 26-27. Múlier, ecce fílius tuus: dixit Jesus; ad discípulum autem: Ecce Mater tua. V. Glória Patri. Ant. Stabant iuxta Crucem.
Stabat Mater dolorósa
Juxta Crucem lacrimósa,
Dum pendébat Fílius.Cujus ánimam geméntem,
Contristátam et doléntem
Pertransívit gládius.O quam tristis et afflícta
Fuit illa benedícta
Mater Unigéniti!Quæ mærébat et dolébat,
Pia Mater, dum vidébat
Nati pœnas íncliti.Quis est homo, qui non fleret,
Matrem Christi si vidéret
In tanto supplício?Quis non posset contristári,
Christi Matrem contemplári
Doléntem cum Fílio?Pro peccátis suæ gentis
Vidit Jesum in torméntis
Et flagéllis súbditum.Vidit suum dulcem
Natum Moriéndo desolátum,
Dum emísit spíritum.Eja, Mater, fons amóris,
Me sentíre vim dolóris
Fac, ut tecum lúgeam.Fac, ut árdeat cor meum
In amándo Christum Deum,
Ut sibi compláceam.Sancta Mater, istud agas,
Crucifixi fige plagas
Cordi meo válida.Tui Nati vulneráti,
Tam dignáti pro me pati,
Pœnas mecum dívide.Fac me tecum pie flere,
Crucifíxo condolére,
Donec ego víxero.Juxta Crucem tecum stare
Et me tibi sociáre
In planctu desídero.Virgo vírginum præclára.
Mihi jam non sis amára:
Fac me tecum plángere.Fac, ut portem Christi mortem,
Passiónis fac consórtem
Et plagas recólere.Fac me plagis vulnerári,
Fac me Cruce inebriári
Et cruóre Fílii.Flammis ne urar succénsus,
Per te, Virgo, sim defénsus
In die judícii.Christe, cum sit hinc exíre.
Da per Matrem me veníre
Ad palmam victóriæ.Quando corpus moriétur,
Fac, ut ánimæ donétur
Paradísi glória. Amen.
Holy Mass is beginning at Saint-Eugène. Listening to Dr Touve Ratovondrahety's prelude on the organ, I hope people remember to thank him often for his beautiful and devoted service at Saint-E.
Am taken back many years, decades, to the first Kyrie I learned to sing: Kyrie IX, the Cum iubilo.
During the incensing of the altar at the Offertory, the Schola is singing the Stabat Mater dolorosa alternating between strophes in the traditional plainchant and from Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Stabat Mater dolorosa pour des religieuses, H 15. They reached the Sancta Mater istud agas before M. Grodziski was obviously ready to proceed with the Preface; I hope they resume post Communionem.
Let's see if this screen capture captured what I wanted to capture. Eh, no. Another attempt. It seems to be impossible to copy the pdf page along with each of Pater Lambillotte SJ's verses. The libellum for today is here.
