Dawn arose unseen, the clouds only now breaking apart...

And it is a touch warmer this morning although the humidity is lower; go figure. Today is the feast of Saint Jeanne-Françoise de Chantal (Introibo, CE, Wiki), widow and foundress, with Saint François de Sales, of the Order of the Visitation; the Mass appointed in the Roman Missal is Cognóvi, Dómine, quia ǽquitas judícia tua. There is a proper Mass (i.e., one celebrated by the Order of the Visitation in its own churches and chapels), Egrédere de terra tua, here.

From Charpentier for the penultimate day in the Octave; it is the H 73 Magnificat, I think.

Post Vesperas. The Gospel at the Pauline Rite Mass for today, the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, is from the Holy Gospel according to Saint John 6,60-69. The parish's seminarian has completed his term-- he made valiant efforts indeed at singing the chant, even the propers-- and so we were subjected to the music director's singing self-accompanied on the organ. Sigh. I know he is well-intentioned etc etc but it is difficult to sing with a voice that is so unsuited by education and practice to the chant. The Men's Schola (under the MD's tutelage) begins next month. We shall see.

Hæc dixit in synagoga docens, in Capharnaum. Et dicebat: Propterea dixi vobis, quia nemo potest venire ad me, nisi fuerit ei datum a Patre meo.

It is also the feast of Saint Quadratus (3rd-4th century), of Saint Privatus (5th century), and of Saint Sidonius (5th century).
